Kia Ora and Hello…

Drawing, painting and making things has been my passion for as long as I can remember. This is me when I was a child, first thing in the morning in my pyjamas drawing. Creating is still my favourite thing to do and place to be.

I make my images with a variety of media, including traditional materials such as watercolour, gouache, pencils, crayon, printmaking and collage, as well as using my iPad and computer. I like the tactile nature and unexpected nature of working by hand. My illustrations are inspired nature and the everyday, and I aspire to create a sense of ‘playful wonder’ in my art. A childlike approach to the world, one of curiosity, imagination, seeing everyday moments as magical experiences full of surprises and joy.

I live in a small city in Aotearoa, New Zealand with my musical husband, my daughter and cat, Picasso. I worked in education as a high school art teacher for several years, before leaving that to pursue my passion for illustration. I have been short-listed twice for the Gavin Bishop Award and in 2020 I won the Margaret Mahy Illustration Prize.
